September 23 Has Political Correctness been taken too far (finally)Dos Palos students protest after school forces sophomore to remove American flag shirt
"First and foremost if I were the student I would have refused and argued the fact that the United States of America represents a melting pot of people. And to deny the American flag is to deny the idea of cultural expressiveness and acceptance. To say that the flag only represents one group of people is to deny the ideals that America is founded on and it lends to the idea that the vice president is making the assumption that the flag only represents those who are Anglo-Saxon. Which is ironic seeing as Anglo-Saxons are no longer the majority of America. She fails to realize, or denies the fact that America has grown out of an Anglo-Saxon rebellion to represent a rebellion against oppression from any institution. And if people like her are educating the youth of America no wonder there is no respect for our country or a lacking of identity as an American. How frustrating." Thoughts provided by my better half. June 14 Power of the PeopleI am personally not a fan of the European Union. Many Europeans see this as jealousy, seeing as the EU market is now quite the power house compared to the US. This is not the case. I don't agree with the European Union, because I see it as more levels of bureaucracy that will eventually take away the power of the people. The EU tried to continue the unification of Europe through the Lisbon Treaty, which would create another level of bureaucracy. It would establish a European Union President and Foreign Minister. This would hurt the democracy and the power of the people and especially the sovereign status of each country. In order for the treaty to pass, all 27 countries that are the European Union must approve the treaty. But today Ireland voted against the treaty and dealt a blow to the European Union movement, which I believe is pushing more and more for a single country of Europe. There is already a "parliament" of the European Union and the Lisbon Treaty would establish the executive branch. From there the lower levels of democracy (local and state) could be dissolved or reduced to no power. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/jun/14/eu.ireland1 If you look at what this treaty is trying to accomplish, the whole conspiracy of a one world government isn't that far of a stretch. If the EU succeeded, other countries would follow suit. Some already are following the path of the EU in order to stay competitive in the world market. Look at the United States and establishing NAFTA, that was just one step. Do a search of the Amero, or check out www.spp.gov . Steps are being taken to bring America, Mexico and Canada together at price of our democracy. April 26 Do you still believe the media? Not much I can say about this, but urge you to watch this video. Discusses the propaganda that the Pentagon has been spewing out that the media has been "reporting" as truth. We have all seen the news where they bring in a military analyst to make sense of the situation or have a different viewpoint. But these analysts have turned out be hired by the Pentagon, briefed on what to say and then appear on the mass media to discuss Pentagon propaganda to influence the American public. PBS has broken the story, and the rest of the networks declined to comment as they are in fault. Here is the PBS link, where you can watch the video... http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/media/jan-june08/tvgenerals_04-24.html Or you can simply watch it on YouTube.
So we are in Afghanistan, Iraq and now it seems they are pushing Iran again... April 01 Disconnected.I have been extremly busy as of late and I apologize. But at the same time it has me thinking.
I'll admit at this point, I am not caught up on the latest election news or attacks to our liberties which seem to be coming daily from the government.
But really, everyone is so caught up in their own world. We all have school, work, familes, friends, hobbies, etc. Washington D.C. is in its own little world that is quite seperate from most of the public. I just feel as if the system is set up in this way for a reason. One of the many reasons stated for low voter turnout is because of the regular occurance of elections. We are bombarded with city mayor and council member, governor, representative, senator, presidential, school board elections. Everytime we turn around there is an election for something, and it gets to the point where one can not keep up with it all and still have a functional life. Well maybe if we had political aids by our sides to keep us informed, but otherwise I'd say its practically impossible. People give up and we become disconnected from the process.
The fact that there are super delegates in the Democractic party shows that there is a back up plan if the popular vote is not what the "party" wants. Or the electoral college, granting Bush the election even though Gore won the popular vote in 2000. Ways in which the population is disconnected from their "democracy."
We elect representatives to both state and national legislatures. How much contact really occurs once they are elected. Do you have time to do your personal research on upcoming topics and contact your representative and voice your opinion so that he can represent you? The representatives can vote how they wish, they just walk a careful line in order to keep getting relected. But smaller votes that do not recieve national attention, they are allowed to vote how they wish. I know, its impossible to poll the nation on each topic that comes to Congress, but its another way of disconnection.
So if you truly believe your representative will voting how you would on all topics and fully believe in the Congress. That is perfectly OK. But what about the President's Executive Orders. They bypass everyone. But we voted for President so we should agree with his executive orders right? Well, back in 2000 the majority of the population actually voted for someone else. In our Constitution it states this country is not to go to war unless declared by Congress. This hasn't happened since World War II and yet there has been the Korean, Vietnam, Gulf, and now Iraq and Afganistan.
I could ramble on (which I admittly know this entry is a ramble and I'm sorry) but the point is, we are becoming more and more disconnected from the process of democracy. With it the government will continue to bypass the people and do what they wish. The system was built this way because the Founding Fathers did not trust the majority, but with the recent attacks to the people of this country by the government I believe things need to change. February 28 Will we get CHANGE?Ok, lets be honest. Huckabee and Pual (sadly) are out of this race. McCain I'd go ahead and say he is too. It is between Obama and Clinton and with Clinton's missteps I really don't have a doubt that Obama will become the Democratic nominee and our next president. Hopefully I don't have to eat my words if this doesn't come true. But as far as I'm concerned, that is how its going down.
Change, Change, Change. Thats all we hear from Obama, change and hope. And he wants us to believe he will bring change to America. I have my doubts.
With my past entry about authenticity of this election, I've come to have quite a cynical outlook on our "democracy" and if it really is a democracy. Or are there a group that are pulling the strings and our Presidents are nothing more than puppets.
Lets look at President Bush. When he ran for presidency in 2000, he preached about lowering taxes, no preemptive wars and no nation building. Lets fast forward, what are we doing right now? We are in TWO preemptive wars and we are back in the days of Imperialism as we occupy Iraq. Take a deep breath, we are in Iraq for the oil. Its been on the headlines over and over about how the world is running out of oil, and we either need to increase our supplies or switch to alternative energies. But with markets such as India and China, with over a billion people each, demanding cars, the oil supply is only growing thinner. The alternate energies can not come online fast enough to suplement oil. So what happened with Bush? Ok the 9/11 attacks happened, but he did a 180 on the American public. I have to question, who is pulling the strings?
Back to Obama, he states he will get the United States out of Iraq. From his website he states, he will begin to remove one to two brigades a month.
BUT. "Obama will launch the most aggressive diplomatic effort in recent American history to reach a new compact on the stability of Iraq and the Middle East. This effort will include all of Iraq’s neighbors — including Iran and Syria. This compact will aim to secure Iraq’s borders; keep neighboring countries from meddling inside Iraq; isolate al Qaeda; support reconciliation among Iraq’s sectarian groups; and provide financial support for Iraq’s reconstruction." How does he expect to do all this, with no army? You can not. The US Embassy in Iraq has been said to be the size of the Vatican complex. Tell me again we are getting out of Iraq. The US still has troops stationed in Western Europe and Japan and World War II happened 60 years ago. We are not getting out of Iraq. Iraq is our new station in the middle east to influence the region and also a base to strike from.
One of Obama's advisors, Zbigniew Brzezinski, who was the National Security Advisor for Carter, states in his book written in 1997 in "The Grand Chessboard" - that the US "must gain hegemony in Eurasia and its oil". So Obama's advisor believes we should be in Iraq.
Are we really going to get change? Or are we getting a bone thrown at us to rally behind this "great message" only to be shafted once again. Will we be in the same situation in a couple years, but with higher taxes and a beaucratic nightmare of a healthcare system.
And lets not talk about the media falling over itself in order to cast Obama in the best light. Literally in the best light. Apparently he is the second coming of Christ.
February 19 America and Censorship China is often criticized for the censorship of knowledge. The internet has made this much harder for China, but so far the Communist party is retaining their hold over the people of China. A quick search will reveal countless news articles on this subject. For Google to operate in China, it was forced to censor the searches of controversial topics that may cast China in a bad light. China censorship damaged us, Google founders admit The popular Wikipedia is banned from China, as it would not conform to the censorship policy of China. Wikipedia defies China's censors China’s Evil Censorship Continues: Bans LiveJournal Well, America has now begun to censor websites also. Are we no better than China? The website, Wikileaks, is a site where people can post up articles that may expose government or corporate corruption. This all started when a report was posted to the website which exposed The Bank Julius Baer & Co of money laundering and corruption. They filed a suit in California against Wikileaks and their host DynaDot, on the premise that it posted "stolen and confidential financial data." The district judge ordered the entire website to be shutdown, which they complied. US Court shuts down leaked doc emporium Web Site 'Wikileaks' Shuttered Over Post The government is now shutting down a website that might incriminate a corporation or the government itself. Is this not the land of the free? Are we not guaranteed our free speech and free press? Why is our government sacrificing our constitution in order to protect a Swiss bank, that could be ultimately corrupt and should be charged for illegal activity? We can only find hope in that Wikileaks has since moved the information to a different host and different websites outside of the United States, so that the people can still read the documents. Wikileaks If you have the time, I highly suggest poking around Wikileaks has it has many eye opening documents, such as operating procedures of Guantanamo Bay. I hope this is an isolated case and government censorship of the internet does not become the normal. But it is also telling and makes me worry for the future. February 14 So you like the fancy voting machines eh?So does the government.
Its been reported by mainstream media, though sparingly, that these machines are easily hackable. A quick search will give you countless hits about these machines and their problems.
It takes about a minute to hack the voting machine and from there change the outcome of the election.
Here is a little excerpt from an ABC News article, Who's Counting: Hacking Diebold Voting Machines, about the machines and their problems.
But that is just one machine tampered with, and wouldn't turn an election you may say. Thats what many critics also say, but the Princeton professor actually concludes that,
Well there has to a be a paper trail we can fall back on right? No, these machines have no independent paper trail. What gives? Even though the world is quickly becoming paperless, with the rise of credit/debit cards instead of cold hard cash. There is still a paper trail for these plastic and electronic transactions. You get a receipt everytime you buy something with your credit card, or even online you are emailed a receipt, which suggests you to print it out for records. Just in case you were over charged or the product never delievered you have proof of what you bought and can challenge the charge to your card. So these everyday transactions have paper trails but the machines in which we cast our vote don't? Our vote ultimatly "decides" who will be President of our country, which can affect our daily lives yet there is no back up system we can fall back to if there is a hint of voting fraud.
Here is a CNN video where they showcase how the machines will react after being hacked.
But of course, all these machines have a lockable piece of plastic so a person can't can access to the motherboard and insert the virus. So we can rest assured our voting system is perfectly sound and the elections are safe.
Wrong, the Diebold key that accesses the machines have been copied. Its a skeleton key, so the same key opens every Diebold voting machine in the country.
Thats right, the key was copied from a picture from their website and the link also provides a Youtube video showing a counterfeit key succesfully opening the voting machine.
So the key has been copied to open the machines, its proven it takes less than a minute to hack the machines to alter the outcomes, and people still have faith in our election process?
You can get extremly consipiracy theorist and believe the govt. knows of the problems and probably sends the machines already tampered with to affect the election, rigged from the start. Or maybe the candidates could hire hackers behind the scenes to do their dirty work for them, to try and win a state or two.
The real kicker, the govt. knows of the problems and yet we continue to use them (duh).
Sure everyone laughs at the idea of registering dead people to vote and scenarios of that kind. But this could be happening without a trace (I believe it is happening). I don't claim to know all the answers, but I'd have to guess that going back to paper ballots would be more secure than these pieces of.... At least if there is an irregularity with paper ballots, you should be able find it. With these hacked machines, you won't even know there is a problem.
Where is our democracy going? The People Matter?Over the next couple of blog entries, I'm going to discuss the current election and the farce that it is.
All over the news, we are being bombarded by Clinton vs. Obama and the tight race that they are running. And the prospect that neither candidates will reach the desired number of delegates before the Democratic National Convention. If this happens, the DNC will call for a vote by the superdelegates to decide the Democratic nominee. This first time this term was thrown around, I know I was confused as this is the first election of their mention.
Who are these superdelegates?
According to the MSNBC article, "Meet the superdelegates", superdelegates are generally...
So, the last example of a superdelegate is a person that has personal power and money that has backed a nominee. An elite per say. Superdelegates are allowed to vote for either candidate regardless of the way the district they represent voted for. So if District A voted for Clinton in the primary, but their representative endorses Obama, the representative can vote for Obama. This is a total disregard of the peoples' vote. The idea of superdelegates was created to help against a stalemate at the DNC, but it is undemocratic. Theoretically the superdelegates could go against the popular vote and then the Democratic Nominee would be decided by 800 people instead of the voice of the nation (at least the democrats voice). The nominee should be decided by which ever candidate is closest to the desired number of delegates it takes to win the nominee. From the CNN article, Democrats fear superdelegates could overrule voters, "It's in a total contradiction of the way the Democrats have set up their primary process, with all this proportional representation," said CNN political analyst Amy Holmes. "The whole point of it was that no one could walk away with the elites. And if this is decided by superdelegates, I think the Democratic Party morally is going to be looking at each other and say, 'What did we just do?' " I'm writing on this subject to show how un democratic our election process has become. Superdelegates go against the vote of the people, but it seems as if no one realizes this or cares. If anything I hope it comes down to the superdelegates to decide and they stupidly go against the popular vote. Maybe then, the people of America will wake up and realize the government is side stepping them and doing what it wishes. |
